Special Olympics PEI at our recent Agents and Directors Meeting

A panel of athletes shared their experiences in competition with Special Olympics PEI at our recent Agents and Directors Meeting. Panelists Roy Paynter, Jeremy Wall, Emily Craig and Janet Charchuck were moderated by S.O.P.E.I. Athlete Paul Phillips. Our group was thoroughly inspired by the presentation and enjoyed an informal get together with the athletes over lunch afterward.

Special Olympics PEI - Female & Male Athletes of the Year

At the Special Olympics PEI AGM and Awards Ceremony on October 16th the Athlete of the year awards were presented by Founding Partner, PEI Mutual.

PEI Mutual Female Athlete of the Year
Jennifer Hickox is involved with the Competitive Bocce program, the Competitive bowling program, Floor Hockey program, and the Community sports program in Charlottetown. At the 2018 National Games this summer she earned a Gold Medal in the sport of Bocce. No matter what the sport is, she always gives 100 percent. She shows determination to improve herself and pays great attention to instructions from her coaches. She often is there to help other athletes that need extra support. Jennifer genuinely loves being a Special Olympics Athlete.

PEI Mutual Male Athlete of the Year
Roy Paynter had a very successful National Summer Games! Roy seemed to really come into his own during Games. He excelled in the pool. Roy exemplified joy throughout the process and continues to show improvement in the pool. Roy will be representing Canada at the 2019 World Summer Games. Improved attitude, very proud of himself of his achievements but also sincerely enjoyed seeing others compete, very supportive of his teammates.

PEI Mutual Helping Make Communities Safer

PEI Mutual presents a cheque for $2,200 to the Wellington Fire Department representing donations in 2017 and 2018.

PEI Mutual has voluntarily donated over $850,000 to Island Fire Departments under its Donation Policy since 1959. Manager of Claims Services and Fire Department Donations coordinator, Josh Toombs, says that "supporting Island Firefighters helps make our communities safer places to live and work". On hand for the presentation, center, Wellington Fire Department President Desmond Arsenault, Deputy Chief Leon Perry and Chief James Ryan. PEI Mutual Director Shane MacKinnon Left, Agent Jane MacLaurin 2nd right and Safety Surveyor Gary Bryson.
