The PEI Mutual Education Trust was founded in 1985, our centennial year. At that time, a donation of $100,000 was given to the Trust by PEI Mutual. Additional donations totaling $82,000 have been given to the trust, since that time. The annual interest from the Trust is paid out in the form of twenty (20) scholarships to Island Grade 12 graduating students allocated to the eleven (11) High Schools based on the number of graduates in the preceding year.
Since 1985, the PEI Mutual Education Trust has awarded 500 Scholarships totaling
$255,000.
Our scholarship program is administered through the Island high school system. In mid-May of each year, we send out application forms to each of the Island high schools, who in turn put together a selection committee and choose the winning
candidate(s). The two main criteria to be used in selecting winning candidates are financial need and academic performance.
Therefore, in mid-May of each year, please contact the appropriate representative at your high school (usually the guidance counselor) for details on how you can become a recipient of one of our PEI Mutual Education Trust scholarships.
We are proud to assist in educating today's youth.
